About Us
Hi, I am Jannice Schamel, President of the Buildings for Babies Foundation. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about Buildings for Babies Foundation and our sponsors.
On August 14th 2000, Melody Joy, our 6th child of eight, under went Open Heart Surgery for a life threatening VSD heart defect. Melody was only 12 days away from her 1st Birthday. As with any surgery of this magnitude, we didn't know if she would live to see her 1st Birthday. Handing her over to the nurse to go into surgery was the hardest and scariest thing a parent could ever experience. Shortly after our experience my husband and I saw the movie "John Q" starring Denzel Washington. That movie really helped us relive our experience with different circumstances.
Our daughter, Melody, is fine now. However we realize that many children, like in the movie, are not as fortunate. We also realized that medical care, on-going research and health care premiums are ever increasing and these medical related costs may not be affordable to everyone, through no fault of their own. My husband and I made a decision then, to commit 10% or more of our companies' profits to supporting children in need. And thus Buildings for Babies Foundation was born.
Buildings for Babies is a non-profit organization that supports a variety of organizations, causes, and individual needs. We believe that by supporting organizations that provide assistance to the needy or under-privileged children of today, we assist our society in upholding the moral values and integrity of our future leaders of tomorrow. Buildings for Babies does not solicit funds from the public; it is supported wholly from donations from companies in the steel building and construction industry. Please see the "Contributor" section for a list of these generous corporations.
We appreciate your time and concern for needy families and your interest in our Buildings for Babies Foundation.
 One thing is for sure, we realize how precious the life and health of a child is and how easily it can be taken away. When do we as a society say, "We've helped the last child." As one of my favorite sayings goes, "All it takes for the evil forces to rule the world is for enough good people to do nothing".
